If you are looking to buy a gas grill for your outdoor kitchen or backyard, there are many things you need to know before you go out and purchase one. Gas grills can get very expensive, so you need to figure out what is going to best suit your needs with all of the different options that are available, and you need to understand all of the features before you get rid of your traditional charcoal grill. Also, set a budget before you walk into the store.
First figure out if you have a natural gas line available for the grill. This is a line that will go directly to your backyard or outdoor kitchen, and you will hook the grill up to it directly. The gas will flow through the lines from the house. The benefit of this option is that you don’t have to worry about running out of natural gas in the middle of cooking a meal, and you also don’t have to worry about changing or keeping extra tanks. The downfall is that you cannot move the grill around to different locations.
The other gas grill option is a propane gas grill. These are most common. The grill will run off of a line from the propane tank you will purchase and have to have filled. You can buy the tanks in different sizes, depending on how often you use your grill and the size. A negative aspect of the propane gas grill is that continuous grilling means that you will have to purchase and fill tanks routinely, depending on how often you use it. Also the bigger the grill is, the more propane you are going to need to run it. Some people prefer the mobility and portability of the propane gas grill to the stationary natural gas grills.
When it comes to grilling, there are no major differences between the two different energy sources in the grills. They will cook food at the same temperature and also at the same consistency. You will use the same grill tools for both, and both can go in your backyard or outdoor kitchen. Both heat up quickly, opposed to the traditional charcoal grills. Once you have decided which of the two you are going to go with, there are other things to look at.
You should look at the surface of the grills. The cheapest grills are normally chrome plated, and are more difficult to clean. Porcelain grills are low maintenance and they are very easy to clean. The best grills for cooking are the cast iron grills. They do the best job of holding heat and cooking foods evenly. However they have a lot of maintenance and must be kept up and treated with oil. Porcelain coated cast iron is normally on the higher end of prices. They have the best cooking quality with high durability and easy cleaning. You have to use specific cleaning tools on them though because the porcelain can get scraped off of the cast iron easily. Lastly is the stainless steel grill that will last the longest, but doesn’t always cook food the best.
When purchasing your grill also look at the size. How much space do you use right now when you’re grilling, and how much space do you want. Do you need two burners, or do you need four. Decide all of things before hand. After purchasing the grill make sure to read all directions, take proper care of it, and also keep it maintained. A gas grill is an expensive product so proper care means better longevity and durability.
