The outdoor furniture you choose will really serve to create an atmosphere. If you want your outdoor space to look very luxurious, you’ll need to choose furniture that lends that feeling to the area. If you want it to look rustic, you can go with things like teak wood chairs and tables. If you want a dainty look like you might find an outdoor French café, you’ll need to choose items that match that look. Most of all, you need to choose your outdoor setting bearing in mind how much care it will take to keep it looking good for the longest amount of time.
Outdoor Wicker Furniture
Wicker is extremely popular. It’s a lightweight furniture that looks breezy and casual but beautiful because of the woven design. Wicker is actually the name of the process used to weave the furniture. This can actually be made with natural materials like reeds and rattan or synthetic materials like twisted paper, plastic or PVC. Outdoor furniture in a wicker style needs to be a hardy, synthetic material. The twisted paper fiber wicker will fall apart in no time after it gets wet.
Wicker made from natural materials like rattan will last a little bit longer but it’s going to mold and mildew very quickly as well. Never use it outdoors. There is no way to properly treat a natural wicker item that makes it safe for use outside. Choose plastics and resins done in a wicker style if you want this style in your outdoor space.
Inexpensive Outdoor Furniture
If you’re on a tight budget you can buy things like plastic stacking chairs or folding chairs like people have used for years, often called lawn chairs. Keep in mind that these are designed to last a long time but they’re inexpensive and not meant to last forever. The hard plastic stacking chairs can last for several years but they will start to break and crack once they’ve been exposed to sun and cold over a couple of years.
Folding chairs like lawn chairs need to be folded up and taken out of the weather as soon as you’re finished using them to get the most time out of them. These are really best for temporary situations because they’re easy to throw in the trunk and take with you. Keep some of these as backup in case you need extra seating, but invest in some good permanent furniture that you want to keep outside. Don’t forget to get some waterproof outdoor cushions to make your permanent outdoor furniture choices even more comfortable.
